The Town of Castle Rock is a booming community located in Douglas County in the Plum Creek Valley midway between Denver and Colorado Springs. Named for the prominent rock formation that overlooks the Town, Castle Rock features several planned developments tied together by its historic downtown. First settled in the 1870s, the Town soon became a center for rhyolite mining and an important station for north-south railroad traffic.

The Town has grown from 3,900 people in 1980 to an estimated 35,000 in 2005, and retains its small-town character and distinct community boundaries.

Schools


Students in Douglas County consistently score above state and national norms in college entrance exams. Offering small class sizes, and an excellent curriculum, Douglas County schools also boasts one of the lowest drop-out rates in the State. In Castle Rock, the four elementary schools operate on a year-round calendar, while one middle and one high school follow a traditional schedule. There is also one charter school in the town and two private elementary schools.
